Does Social Media Violate Student Privacy?

This month on the GetInsight blog, I have a blog post shared that explores the issue of student privacy and social media.  The post traces the often tenuous relationship between FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and a student's use of social media for class assignments and activities.  This is a topic that is often bewildering and concerning to professors and, frequently, one of the reasons faculty cite for not pursuing the use of social media in their teaching approaches.

This blog post is offered as a resource to facilitate a conversation around this topic -- both here and at your local institutions.  I invite you to read the post and contribute a comment to the VoiceThread below.  If you're new to VoiceThread, don't feel intimidated.  Any comment you leave can easily be deleted and re-recorded/written before it is shared publicly.
